Scammers may send text messages, emails, or phone calls impersonating your financial institution. They trick you into sharing personal information like login credentials or account numbers. They will use the information to access the account and perform fraudulent transactions using mobile payment apps, like Zelle. They may tell you that a transaction is on hold pending authorization or that your credentials are needed to unlock your account after a suspicious login attempt.
Tips on how to avoid those scams:
Banks will never contact customers to verify their account and security information or ask you to transfer funds.
Scammers may contact you via phone calls, email, or text messages representing themselves as an employee of a company.
Hang up or delete the message immediately if they ask for your personal or security information, such as password, PIN, social security number, mother's maiden name, birthdate, driver's license number/ID number, or other personal information.
Do not share your login information with others.
